Set-up of a Single Item Auction consists of the following steps:
  • Describe your item and specify the parameters for the auction.
  • Attach files that provide supplemental information (Optional).
  • Send the Auction Notifications (Optional).

Describe your item and specify the parameters for the auction involves the following:
  • Select the Form and Type of Steel.
  • Describe your Item at Auction.
  • Identify the location or delivery point.
  • Specify the parameters that define your auction such as the date and time the bidding ends and the minimum bid for the item that you will accept.
  • Identify who can bid from your personal Contact List.
Select the Form and Type of Steel - When you select the Form and Type of Steel that is the subject of your Auction, we identify which buyers using Steel Spider have indicated an interest in receiving a Notification for the form and type selected. If you elect to make you auction visible to all then you can send notifications to these buyers.

Brief Description of your Auction - The description of your Auction should contain a brief description of the item you are selling. (You can provide more information in the Detailed Description, if necessary. After the parameters have been saved, you can also include up to three files to provide more information about your auction.)

Identify the location or delivery point - This helps the buyer determine whether distance is a factor regarding the steel in question.

Identify the authorized bidders. - This is where you identify who can bid. Add the email addresses of authorized bidders to your personal Contact List in Personalize. Create a new Group and add those in your Contact List who can bid to this Group. Then select this group below as the Approved Bidder Group. You can set up an auction to be visible without selecting an Approved Group but no one will be able to bid until you add them to a Group in your Contact List and return to this page and select the appropriate Group as the Approved Group.

Detailed Description of your Auction - Provide any additional information in the Detailed Description, if necessary.

There are two additional and optional steps you can take. You can provide files to supplement your description of the auction and you can have Steel Spider send Auction Notices for you.

Attach Files - You can attach Text (.txt), Adobe (.pdf), Excel (.xls or .csv), Word (.doc) and picture (.jpg and .gif) files to provide further information about your Auction. The page after you save your Auction Parameters lets you upload up to three files. Press the Browse button and select the file on your computer. Press Save to close the window and the filename should appear in the box next to the Browse button. Provide a name describing the file that will become a link a buyer can click to see the file. Press Change Files to send it to Steel Spider.

Send Auction Notification - After your auction has been set-up, there will be a list for your Auctions. If an auction is running, you can click on the Notify link next to the auction and then elect whether Steel Spider should send emails to notify your approved bidders of your auction. If your Auction is publicly visible, a Notification can also to go to all the buyers on Steel Spider who have indicated an interest in receiving an Auction Notification. You can restrict this list to those buyers located within a certain distance from a Zip or Postal Code.

After the bidding period ends, go to Enter an Auction to view the results of your auction. Results for completed Auctions will be visible to the seller and the approved bidders for two days after the bidding period ends.
