Steel Spider

Steel Spider is designed to help steel buyers quickly find steel and contact the seller to buy the prime, excess and secondary steel they need. Steel Spider helps North American steel suppliers promote their companies, expand sales and generate sales leads. Steel Spider is an affordable central trading platform on the internet where multiple suppliers advertise their steel in stock and available for sale. Steel Spider provides sellers with additional sales channels to reach current and new customers. Steel Spider helps steel buyers and sellers make one to one connections so they can easily and inexpensively communicate, trade, and build relationships with one another.

We have five platforms to support steel buyers and sellers:

Inventory

Our searchable Multi-Supplier Inventory is the cornerstone of Steel Spider. The inventory functions like a search engine for steel. The Multi-Supplier Inventory is a searchable inventory of steel available for sale by multiple sellers. Buyers search the Inventory by specifying the attributes of the steel they need. Steel Spider produces a summary listing of steel that matches these attributes. By clicking on the company name for any item, the buyer can contact the seller directly. The steel in the inventory is current and updated regularly. Steel in the inventory over 30 days is removed unless the supplier confirms that it is still available.

A Spider Bite is an email message sent for you to the supplier of an item in the Inventory. You can send a Spider Bite to the supplier to obtain more information about an item in the Inventory that may be of interest to you. We send Inventory Alerts to buyers who request them to let them know when steel is added to the Inventory that matches criteria they provide. The criteria is the same as they use when they search the Inventory for steel. The Inventory Alert email contains a description of the steel that was added that matches the buyer's criteria. If any of the steel in the Inventory Alert email is of interest, you can click on the Company Name in the email and the contact information for the seller will appear in your browser. You can contact the seller directly or send a Spider Bite.

Sellers can manually add steel to the Multi-Supplier Inventory by using the forms in Add Steel to Inventory under Inventory. Items are added immediately. An easier method of adding steel to the Multi-Supplier Inventory is to use our Automatic Data Entry process. This is especially useful when a seller has a large quantity of steel to advertise. The seller provides us with a file containing descriptions of their steel. Sellers using the Automatic Data Entry process can update their steel by providing an new file. The steel from the previous file is removed and replaced with the steel in the new file.

Auctions

The Steel Spider Auction Platform lets steel sellers run sealed bid auctions. Our Auction Platform automates the process where a seller sends a bid list of his steel to multiple buyers and requests that they send back their bids by a certain date and time. Our Sealed Bid Auction Platform automates the setup, announcement, bidding, award, and notification processes making it easy for a seller to run an auction and for a buyer to bid. An Auction is easy to setup once the seller has an Excel file that contains a description of the steel items he is offering for sale. Our Offering Platform, described below, can be used to announce the auction. After the bids are received, the seller decides who, if anyone, is awarded which items. We can send an email to each of the bidders to let them know what they were awarded. We also provide the seller with an Excel file that summarizes the results of the auction.

We have included a Practice Auction functionality to demonstrate all of the features of the auction in preparation for a seller running an actual auction. A practice auction is the same as a "real" auction except that we simulate bidding by having a number of fake bidders bid and let the bidding period be ended prematurely so the seller can see the complete auction process.

For those items were not awarded the seller can elect to have these items added to the searchable Inventory using our Automatic Data Entry System. In this manner buyers on Steel Spider receiving Inventory Alerts that correspond to these items will be notified by email that they are available.

For additional information about the Auction Platform, click on Auction Platform Overview.

Offering

A supplier can also advertise his available steel by Sending an Offering by email to multiple steel buyers who have indicated an interest in receiving their Offerings. Offerings describe a Suppliers available steel in the body of the email. Sellers can attach a file to their Offering email to provide additional information about their available steel. Buyers sign-up to Receive Offerings by identifying the form and type of steel they deal in.

In addition to sending Offerings to those on Steel Spider who have requested them, Offerings can also be sent by email to buyers the seller knows. Each Registered user has a Contact List where a seller can identify the email addresses of those buyers he knows.

For additional information about the Offering Platform, click on Steel Offering Overview.

Inquiry

Buyers can send Inquiries or Requests for Quotes by email to multiple suppliers. A Buyer identifies the steel form and type that he is looking for and describes the steel he needs and where he needs it. Steel Spider creates emails from this information and sends an email to each supplier who deals in the steel form and type that is desired by the buyer. The supplier can then contact the buyer directly using the buyer's contact information contained in the email.

Suppliers wishing to Receive Inquiries need to sign-up to receive them by identifying the products they deal in. Using his Contact List where a buyer can identify the email addresses of sellers he knows, a buyer can also send his Inquiry to those in his contact list.

For additional information about the Inquiry Platform, click on Steel Inquiry Overview.

Facility Directory

The Facility Directory is a searchable directory of steel facilities containing the location, capabilities and materials used or processed by a seller's facility. Buyers can search the Facility Directory by company name, material handled and processing capabilities. Additionally the database can produce a list of company names and addresses within certain radius from the Zip or Postal Code. Sellers add their companies by going to Add Your company to the Facility Directory.

For additional information about the Facility Directory Platform, click on Facility Directory Overview.

Registration

Registration is free. Registration allows you to use certain features where your contact information is needed. Buyers can find and buy steel using our Multi-Supplier Inventory and Offerings without registering. Registration allows Buyers to receive email Inventory Alerts and is required to send an Inquiry. Sellers need to register to advertise their steel in the inventory, to run auctions, to send Offerings, and to receive Inquiries.

Personal Contact List

Registered users can maintain a list of their personal contacts on Steel Spider. This list of contacts is used by sellers to send Offerings and auction announcements. Buyers can use the Contact List to send inquiries to some or all of the people in their Contact List.

Events Calendar

The Events Calendar contains a listing of upcoming events in North America of interest to the users of Steel Spider focusing on networking with those who buy and sell surplus, excess and secondary steel.

Border Ads

Sellers can advertise their companies through company logos that appear randomly on each page (Border Ads). Border ads are 135px square jpg or gif images that link to your website. If you don't have a website they can link to your entry in the Facility Directory or we can preare a Profile Page for your company on Steel Spider. We charge $100 US per month to display a Border Ads of his company's logo randomly on each page and this also includes the ability to use the Automatic Data Entry process.
